Who we are
Methalo is operated by Ernest Mokwena, South Africa ("we", "us"). Questions about privacy: hello@methalo.dev.
What we collect
- Your account - your email address; if you sign in with Google, also your name and profile picture as Google shares them (we never see your Google password). If you choose a password for Methalo, it is stored only in hashed form - we cannot read it.
- Projects you save to your account - when you choose File > Save to my account, that project (with its images) is stored on our server so you can open it again anywhere. Only you can open it, and you can delete it at any time from File > Open from my account.
- Your designs, while exporting - when you export, preview or lay out a smaller screen, the design you are working on is sent to our export server so it can produce the code. It is processed and sent straight back; we do not store your designs.
- Technical data - like any web service, our servers see your IP address and basic request details. We use them briefly to keep the service working and to limit abuse (for example, too many requests per minute); they are not used to profile you.
What stays on your device
Your projects live in your browser and in the .methal files you save. Images you add are kept in your browser's storage so your projects can show them. A sign-in cookie keeps you signed in (it is needed for your account to work, and is not used for tracking). Unless you save a project to your account, we do not upload or keep copies of your projects.
What we do not do
- No advertising, no selling or renting of your data.
- No analytics or tracking cookies.
- No reading of your designs for any purpose other than producing your export.
Services we rely on
To run Methalo we use a few providers, each only for its part:
- Google - "Continue with Google" sign-in, and the fonts and icons the editor shows (your browser loads them from Google).
- Render - hosts the editor and the export server.
- Our web host - keeps the accounts and the projects saved to them, on the server behind methalo.dev, and sends the account emails (confirming your address, resetting your password).
Some of these providers process data outside your country. They do so under their own security and privacy commitments.
Why we use your information
To provide Methalo to you (your account and your exports), to keep it secure and working, and to contact you about your account or important changes. We rely on your agreement when you create an account and on our legitimate interest in running a secure service.
How long we keep it
Your account, and the projects saved to it, stay until you delete them or ask us to delete your account. Export requests are not stored. Technical request data is kept only briefly in server logs.
Your rights
You may ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete your account and its data. Email hello@methalo.dev from the address on your account and we will act on it. If you are in South Africa you also have rights under POPIA, and in the EU or UK under the GDPR, including the right to complain to your data-protection authority.
Children
Methalo is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and for significant changes we will let account holders know.
